A leading holiday park operator with over 20 parks across the United Kingdom

Away Resorts is a leading holiday park operator with over 20 parks across the United Kingdom, including Scotland, Lincolnshire, Isle of Wight, North Wales, Hampshire & Dorset, Cornwall, Hayling Island and Essex. Freshstream was attracted to the business by the sector’s strong historical performance, its high-quality portfolio of sites, and a strong management team with a history of overperformance against industry benchmarks. Away Resorts was sold to CVC in June 2021.

“Freshstream provided us with other ways of thinking and working to ensure we were more successful as a team, without it being intrusive.”

The value creation plan for Away Resorts consisted of four pillars:

  • Expansion and renovation of existing parks
  • Acquisition of new parks
  • Development of a brownfield site
  • Premiumisation and yield management

The first element of our value creation plan for Away Resorts was to significantly increase capacity across its five existing parks by converting unused land area into pitches. Freshstream provided significant capital investment to realise this, including a transformational renovation of Away Resort’s largest park.

Our goal was to expand the number of parks in Away Resort’s portfolio through acquisitions and the further development of greenfield and brownfield sites. Under our ownership, we acquired four new high-quality sites and converted a golf course into an additional holiday park.

Freshstream initiated a project to automate the business’ pricing based on real-time capacity utilisation metrics and the scraping of competitor websites. We also supported the introduction of a new CRM system, strengthened the management team with a new marketing director, and supported the investment of solar panels across multiple sites.

Away Resorts was acquired by CVC Capital Partners in 2021.
